ROLE AND PURPOSE: To coordinate safety and security through management of the personnel and facilities within the assigned unit(s) / sector(s) of the Arlington ISD Security Department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION / TRAINING:

• Bachelor's Degree from Accredited Institution; or
• An approved combination of training and education

EXPERIENCE:

• Five (5) years law enforcement or security experience, at least three (3) of which was as a supervisor; or
• Equivalent combination of training and work experience.
• Experience in conducting criminal, personnel, and employment investigations.
• Public school security or school-based law enforcement experience (preferred).

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

UNIT / SECTOR MANAGEMENT:

• Serve as a Command Staff member of the Arlington ISD Security Department, and perform duties and responsibilities commensurate with a command-level assignment.
• Conduct investigations into security-related incidents, incidents involving students, and personnel matters, both individually and as part of a team with other Security Department personnel, law enforcement, and / or AISD Human Resources personnel.
• Provide clear instructions to Security personnel within the assigned unit(s) / sector(s) and District administrative staff at facilities within those areas with regards to AISD policies and procedures.
• Be knowledgeable of Arlington ISD policies and procedures, or demonstrate expert familiarity with general school-security Department policy and procedures.
• Demonstrate a positive and inspirational attitude when dealing with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and visitors, to include parents of students.
• Be capable of leading a team during major incidents / events, to include crowd control, metal detector checks, room searches, canine searches, etc.
• Effectively solve problems within the assigned unit(s) / sector(s).
• Have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability and willingness to be a team player at all times.
• Exhibit discretion and confidentiality in dealing with Department, student, and District matters.
• Stay abreast of all current state, local and district laws and rules that govern the proper administration of school district security and law enforcement personnel.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise assigned unit(s) / sector(s) of the Security Department. Each lieutenant will have a primary assigned unit / sector, along with additional duty assignments to meet the needs of the Department or as assigned by the Director of Security.
• Supervision and evaluation of personnel assigned to the AISD Security Department in specified unit(s) / sector(s).
• Conduct the first round of interviews for hiring of Security personnel for the assigned unit(s) / sector(s).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: (continued)

• Complete weekly payroll processing for all Security personnel for the assigned unit(s) / sector(s)
• Assign Security Personnel to work schedules and ensure coverage of assigned unit(s) / sector(s) at all times.
• Coordinate after-hours, overtime, and other schedules for personnel within assigned unit(s) / sector(s) to cover District needs.
• Review reports of criminal activity and other investigations generated by assigned staff and take or recommend appropriate action
• Maintain a professional appearance as directed by Department policy.

MISCELLANEOUS:

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Security
• Be available for a flexible work schedule as needed for changing work assignments or to respond to an ongoing incident / emergency.
• Remain available for call-back for work related issues 24 / 7 / 365 during the year.
